Campus Housing and the Water Main Break

Aug. 12, 11:45 a.m.
A large water main break Wednesday caused low water pressure and the possibility of contamination to the City of Ames water supply.

Water on campus should be considered potentially contaminated. Any water used for consumption must be brought to a full rolling boil for three to five minutes. Do not use drinking fountains or tap water in your residence hall or apartment without boiling it first.

Water pressure in faucets and toilets may remain slightly low in some areas. Residents living on campus and throughout the community are encouraged to use as little water as possible so that full water service can be returned as quickly as possible. Showers can be used for short periods of time.
