Allen Achievement Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is an opportunity for the residents of Stanton House to recognize the community member they feel best exemplifies the spirit of Stanton House.
This scholarship was initiated in 1995 after the death of Stanton House custodian, James Arthur Allen. His sister, Delilah Allen, bequeathed the money to the foundation in his honor, with the requirement that it be given only to a Stanton resident. As stated in her will, “This gift is being made because the residents of Stanton House were so good to my brother.”
All eligible Stanton residents are encouraged to apply. The scholarship will be awarded during the spring semester with the $1,000 being applied to the recipient’s spring semester bill. To be eligible, applicants must:
-
Live in Stanton House the semester they apply for and receive the scholarship (spring semester).
-
Be in at least the second consecutive semester (excluding summer sessions) of residence in Stanton House.
-
Have at least a 2.00 GPA
-
Have demonstrated formal and/or informal leadership in house activities as determined by the committee reviewing applicants.
The Lower Friley Hall Director will coordinate this scholarship, with a committee of 3-4 other members including a representative from Stanton House and Department of Residence staff.
