House History
Named for Philip Elwood who organized the Department of Landscape Architecture at Iowa State in 1929. He became its first head and remained on the staff until 1951. During his years at Iowa State he made outstanding contributions to the layout and planning of the campus. He and Allan Kimball programmed the basic plan against many proposed encroachments.
