House History
Named for Jay Woodrow (1884-1951). A Rhodes scholar, Woodrow received a degree from Oxford University in 1910 and a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1913. He served on several University staffs before coming to Iowa State in 1921. He was head of the Physics Department at Iowa State from 1930 until 1947 when he retired. He was a member of many honorary societies and his publications in the field of physics were on ionization, biophysics, photo-electricity and high vacuum.
