Move Out is Saturday, May 11:

  • Non-graduating students: Out by noon
  • Graduating seniors: Out by 7 p.m.
  • Graduating seniors in LAS and H SCI can put in a late stay request once the form becomes available

Residence Hall Move Out Steps

  1. Schedule a check-out appointment with your RA.
  2. Take all of your belongings out of your room.
  3. Clean thoroughly.
  4. Take out all trash.
  5. All furniture that came with your room/apartment should be put back in place and assembled—beds should be lofted. (You will be charged for missing furniture).
  6. Check and empty out your mailboxes before you leave
  7. Submit your USPS forwarding address in the housing portal (look for the option under “manage my information.”)
  8. Check and empty out your mailboxes before you leave
  9. Complete the inspection of your room with your RA
  10. When you’re done, close and lock your door

Residence Hall Express Checkout

Packet are available at your hall desk. The process is similar to above, but is no-contact and involves you filling out your inspection form on your own and having your room inspected by staff shortly after you leave. If you are assessed charges, they will be billed directly to your Ubill. There is no appeal option when doing an express check out. All details and instructions are provided within the packet. Frederiksen Court Move Out Steps

  1. Read the move out packet.
  2. Talk to your roommates about cleaning.
  3. Clean all rooms in your apartment
  4. Take out all trash
  5. Inspect your apartment (use the form in the packet)
  6. Close and lock your door
  7. Put YOUR KEYS in the packet and seal it
  8. Check and empty out your mailboxes before you leave
  9. If you reside in FC 24, 35, 36 & the 80s you should submit your USPS forwarding address in the housing portal (look for the option under “manage my information”). All other areas should fill out the USPS forwarding form online
  10. Return the packet to the Frederiksen Court Community Desk

If you are staying for the summer, have your apartment clean and in good shape to welcome your new roommates.

SUV Move Out Steps

  1. Get a check-out packet from the Community Center
  2. Clean all rooms in your apartment
  3. Take out all trash
  4. Inspect your apartment (use the form in the packet)
  5. Close and lock your door
  6. Pick up and fill out a USPS forwarding address card (where you want your mail to go) from the SUV Community Center desk, or you can use the USPS forwarding form online
  7. Check and empty out your mailboxes before you leave
  8. Put YOUR KEYS in the packet and seal it
  9. Return the packet to the SUV Community Center

If you don’t have a summer 2024 contract for your current apartment, you need to follow the process above. Move your items out, clean your apartment and return your keys!

Cleaning Tips

Furniture

  • Make sure it’s all there and properly assembled.
  • Wipe it all down including the insides of drawers, cabinets and closets

Floors

  • Sweep all floors (but don’t sweep the debris in to the hallway, be kind to our custodians and use a dustpan)
  • Mop all floors

Walls & Windows

  • Remove everything from the walls including any adhesive, funtac, tape, etc that you used to hang items.
  • Wipe down the walls.
  • Clean any permanent mirrors
  • Clean windows and window sills
  • Wipe down any trim/baseboards

Bathrooms – Suites and Apartments

  • Clean the counter, sink, faucet and mirror
  • Scrub the shower’s floor and walls
  • Clean the inside of the toilet and wipe down the outside of the toilet, including the base
  • Sweep and mop the floor

Kitchens – Apartments

  • Clean counters
  • Scrub sink and faucet
  • Clean the inside and outside of all appliances that came with your apartment
  • Sweep and mop floors

Laundry – Frederiksen Court

  • Make sure all of your items are out of the washer and the dryer
  • Wipe down the outside of the unit

Late stay Requests

Late stay requests are typically not considered due to the need to quickly turn space for projects, summer school, and summer conferences. If you have an emergency that requires you to stay in housing beyond your check-out deadline, make your request through the option provided within the housing portal. Requets should be made by April 30, 2024. Otherwise, please review this list of Ames hotels to arrange temporary housing for yourself.
