There are many reasons why you will enjoy living in Schilletter and University Village (SUV) and many ways in which you can flourish in our diverse and exciting community. The opportunities and advantages are limitless!

We are a diverse and international community. More than 60 percent of our residents are international students. You will be able to meet individuals from a variety of cultures, as well as share common experiences with residents from similar backgrounds.

We have a strong and supportive staff and student government council. You will have opportunities to meet, support, and possibly even join our staff and student government councils. These individuals are dedicated to making SUV the best place it can be.

A Place to Gather. Construction on our community center and new playground equipment was completed in April of 2006. The community center houses study areas, a computer lab, large conference room, common area, and kitchen. It’s a great place for SUV residents to study, gather with friends, and participate in social functions. The community center is also where residents can go if they have questions, concerns, or just want to say hello to the friendly SUV staff.

Location, Location, Location. Most major buildings on the Iowa State campus are just a short walk, bike, or bus ride away. You will experience the independence of apartment life while enjoying all the benefits that go hand-in-hand with being located on campus.

SUV publishes a monthly newsletter, the SUV Commentor, to keep residents informed.

We offer a wide range of programs and services that will allow you to both benefit from and contribute to our community and make lifelong friends in the process!

Kitchens are equipped with a cook top, oven, workspace, refrigerator, and sink. High-speed Internet service (DSL), expanded basic cable, water, and garbage removal are included in the rent of each apartment. Students provide their own furniture and window coverings (curtain rods are provided). A limited number of furnished apartments are available at an additional cost. Rent is billed monthly by the university.

Contract

Schilletter and University Village contracts keep the student lifestyle in mind. Students who graduate from, withdraw from, have their enrollment terminated by Iowa State, or are enrolled in a university sponsored program (internships, co-ops, student teaching, study abroad)will be eligible to move out during the year without incurring a penalty. You can also elect to sign a nine or 12-month lease. With the nine-month lease, you won’t have to pay rent if you decide to leave Ames for the summer!

Community Services

A variety of services are available for residents, including on-site day care and preschool (University Community Childcare) and a community center that features a computer lab, study space, conference room, large meeting room, and a kitchen.

Programs sponsored throughout the year include weekly visits by the Ames Public Library bookmobile, monthly Bingo and movie nights, seasonal programs, and more! The WIC (Women, Infant, and Children) program also provides services in the community center on a regular basis.

Pets

University village has designated a number of “pet friendly” apartments. Residents in these buildings can have aquarium fish and a limit of two caged pets (such as birds, hamsters, etc.), OR one cat, OR one dog. Advance arrangements and prior approval must be made before your pet will be allowed to reside in UV. A non-refundable fee is also required.

Residents in non-pet friendly apartments can have aquarium fish in a tank that is 30 gallons or less.
