Overview
The DOR Research Office was created in 1996 to measure students' academic success and retention to the University, and to assess students' satisfaction with residence facilities and services.
Research Goals
Collect data related to students' satisfaction with facilities and services.
- Conduct a survey of Residence Hall students to assess their satisfaction with their CA, house cabinet, and house atmosphere.
- Include additional questions about one functional area (e.g., Residence Life, Facilities).
- Conduct a survey of Frederiksen Court and SUV residents (students who live in apartments).
- Benchmark ratings against those from previous years.
- Benchmark ratings from the apartments survey against those of other institutions.
Track data related to the academic success of students.
- Develop count day files with residence and basic academic information for fall and spring semesters.
- Query GPA information at the end of the semesters.
- Compare mean GPA's for groups of interest (e.g., gender, class, ethnicity, campus residence).
- Conduct additional analyses to learn more about which background or environmental characteristic might predict a higher GPA.
Track data related to the retention graduation of students at Iowa State University.
- Obtain FY F-T Count Day data from Institutional Research.
- Conduct analyses of student retention (years 1-6).
- Compare retention rates (of above) for groups of interest (e.g., Learning Community students, gender, class, and ethnicity).
- Conduct additional analyses regarding predicators of retention.
Assist staff in assessing the Living, Learning, Leading Model.
- Consult with Residence Life staff regarding assessment methods.
- Provide assistance in data collection.
- Provide assistance in analyses.
