House History

HABER, Ernest S. (1896-1961) received a B.S. degree from Ohio State University in 1918 and two degrees from Iowa State (M.S. 1922, Ph.D. 1928). He joined the Iowa State staff in 1920 as an assistant professor and head of the vegetable crops subsection from 1940 to 1947 and became head of the department of horticulture in 1947. His research in the fields of sweet corn, potato and onion breeding were nationally recognized. He served as president of the Sweet Corn Breeders Association and was president of the American Society of Horticulutural Science in 1954. He served on the Iowa State Athletic Council for five years and was chairman for two years.
