House History

CARPENTER, Halstead M. (1891-1950), a member of the Board of Education (Board of Regents) from 1947 to 1950, always had an ardent desire to improve the State of Iowa and a great deal of his time was spent on Iowa's educational problems including state appropriations for education. As an expert of finance, his chief contribution as a member of the Board of Education was his influence of financial institutions in the negotiation of loans for the construction of residence halls at Iowa State and other state schools. His assistance was very important in the development of the present physical facilities of the residence halls at Iowa State.
