BROWN, F.E. (1882-1959), attended Kansas State Teachers College and then obtained a B.S. (1913) and a Ph.D. (1918) in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. He joined the Iowa State staff in 1917. During the 42 years he served Iowa State, he taught more than 40,000 freshmen students in chemistry and more than 500 graduate students. Although he was the author of texts and numerous technical papers and very active in community affairs, he was best known as an oustanding teacher of freshman chemistry.
