LOWE, Belle (1886-1961) was a graduate of the University of Chicago in the class of 1912, also an M.S. degree there in 1934. She was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from Iowa State in 1957. She was a professor of food and nutrition and home economics research for many years and was well known for here textbook, Eperimental Cookery, a book known and acclaimed all over the United States and Europe. She won the first Christie Award given to the person who contributed most to the study of eggs and poultry. She was a person of many interests, an enthusiastic sports fan, could lecture on political and war news as well as an commentator, a naturalist and as the spokesman at her twenty-five dinner said, " Her many qualities have endeared this versatile person to all of us."
