House History

NILES, William (1858-1939) was graduated from Iowa State in 1885. He was professor of veterinary medicine from 1891 to 1898. In addition to his teaching he carried on research in tuberculosis and hog cholera and was one of the men who developed immunizing hogs against cholera. He made many valuable contributions to the reports of the Bureau of Animal Husbandry and to veterinary journals. He was on the staff of the USDA from 1898 to 1928.

FOSTER, John Elden (1876-1940) attended Western College at Toledo, Iowa, and received an M.S. degree from Yale University. He came to Iowa State as dean of men in 1922 and served in this capacity until 1927 when he became dean of the summer session and a member of the vocational education department. He served as president of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and also as president of the Iowa State Teachers Association.
