House History

KIMBALL, Allan Holmes (1888-1946) received degrees from the University of California (B.S. Arch., 1910) and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. Arch. 1911; M.S. 1912), joined the Iowa State staff in 1914 and became professor and head of architectural engineering in 1915 and was head at the time of his death in 1946. The modern campus owes much of its arrangement to the expert planning and designing of Professor Kimball. He helped plan many campus buildings. He was recognized as an outstanding architect and much of the recognition that the department now commands was due to his untiring efforts.
