House History

Spectrum is a housing community for students interested in building an intentional, inclusive community for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, and ally (LGBTQIA+) people. The floor has a mix of single and double rooms, restrooms that have complete privacy in the toilet and shower stalls, a house den and a dedicated Community Advisor. It is also a short walking distance from the new Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success, now located in the Memorial Union.

Spectrum residents will have the opportunity to be involved in the LGBTQIA+ community at Iowa State as part of a group and learn more about their own identity and the identities and experiences of others in the LGBTQIA+ community. Students of all genders are welcome to live in Spectrum. Driven by student demand, one of Spectrum's intentions is to help students find a truly compatible roommate, so roommate pairs may be of any gender.
