House History

TAPPAN, Anna Helen (1888-????) received an A.B. degree (1909) from Western College, Oxford, Ohio and two degrees from Cornell University (A.M. 1912, PhD 1914). She was an assistant professor of mathematics at Iowa State from 1914 to 1917. After leaving Iowa State she served on the staff of Western College as professor of mathematics, dean of women and as academic dean. She was one of ten women to receive the Alumni Citation at the Western College Centennial in 1953, a rare and coveted honor. Western conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters on her in 1954. She has been listed in American Men of Science, Leaders in America Education, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in Ohio. She is one of the most distinguished alumni of Western College.
