House History

PETERSEN, Christian (1885-1961) was associate professor of applied art and a nationally known sculptor. He came to Iowa State in 1934 to complete the group of figures in the Dairy Industry Building court and was appointed to the Iowa State staff in 1937. Christian Petersen's interpretations of American life brought him recognition as one of the most powerful of contemporary artists. His works are extensive and are known in the east as well as the middle west. Works in sculpture existing on the Iowa State Campus include: the Dairy Court Group, Veterinary Quadrangle Group, Union Fountain, Home Economics Pool, Library Figures, Figures in front of Oak and Elm Halls.
