House System
Every student who lives in an on-campus residence hall is a member of a specific house. Each house consists of 40 to 60 students who live on the same floor or section of their residence hall.
The house system is one of Iowa State's great traditions and provides residents with a great way to meet new people and get involved in social, educational, and cultural events. Residents elect a house cabinet to help them plan and implement house programs.
Most houses are named after historical figures or individuals who had a significant relationship with ISU. To find out who your house is named after, review the information on that house's web page.
Specialty Houses
Each year, the DOR reserves space in some houses for new students with certain academic or group affiliations. Available specialty houses include:
New students interested in joining one of these options will have the opportunity to do so when they contract for housing. Due to specific eligibility requirements and space availability, students interested in one of these options are strongly encouraged to submit their contract on-line using AccessPlus.
