Students who live on campus value their experience and have repeatedly chosen to return to the residence halls and on-campus apartments at high rates. To accommodate increasing demand, the DOR has leased off-campus space and operates it as on-campus housing.

Legacy, located at 119 Stanton Avenue (just south of campus), houses 299 residents. Legacy has been leased by the DOR since fall 2013 and will continue under DOR management through the 2018-19 academic year. We will no longer be leasing Legacy effective after classes end in May 2019.

To be eligible to live in a Legacy apartment, you must be at least 19 years old or in your second year of college.

Residents are not permitted to have any pets, other than fish, in any Legacy apartment.

Assignments for Legacy are made through the standard DOR contracting and assignment processes.

Apartment Types and Furnishings

Each Legacy apartment is two level with a spiral staircase leading to an upper floor. There are several styles of apartments in Legacy. Please click on one of the links below to view a floor plan:

The number in () after the apartment type indicates how many of that type exist.

All apartments are single gender and all bedrooms are singles (for one person). Every apartment comes fully furnished with the following:

  • Living Room: 3 Seat Sofa, Armchair, and End table
  • KItchen: Stove, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, and Dining Table & Chairs
  • Bedroom: Bed, Mattress (extra-long twin), Dresser, Desk  & Chair, and File Caddy

Lofts ARE NOT provided or permitted in Legacy due to the height of the ceilings.

Staff and Security

Legacy is staffed with a full-time Apartment Community Manager who lives in the building and is officed in Suite 201. There are also 2 Community Advisers per floor. This staff works to create a positive and vibrant community as well as to enforce ISU and DOR policies.

The Legacy building is locked 24/7 via an electronic access system. Residents are issued an electronic key fob with their apartment and bedroom keys that allows they entry into the building.

Rent and Utilities

Rent is conveniently charged to your Ubill at the beginning of each semester.  All utilities (electricity, gas, water, garbage, cable and internet) are included in your rent.


Community Space - A large, two-level community area on the top floor offers spectacular views of campus and is a great place to hang out with friends or study.  There is also study space on the second floor.

The Resort - All Legacy residents have access to The Resort.  The Resort, managed by Campustown Property Management, offers a fitness center, sauna, hot tub, pool and grilling area.  The Resort is available to anyone living in properties owned by Campustown Property Management.

Parking - Parking in Iowa State University parking lots is available through the ISU Parking Division.  If you’d like a parking spot near 119 Stanton, please contact Campustown Property Management at 515-598-9000 to discuss the covered and uncovered parking spots located in Campustown and their associated rates.

Laundry - A coin-operated laundry room is available in the building. This laundry room does not accept CyCash.

Maintenance - For furniture related maintenance issue, please submit a work order via the DOR on-line system.

Student Involvement

Legacy has an active population that is governed by the Inter Residence Hall Association (IRHA). There are many leadership opportunities available to Legacy residents.
