Parent Information

Welcome to Iowa State University's Department of Residence! It's our mission to advance your student's success by providing a vibrant living and learning environment. We're here to partner with you as your student travels the path of becoming a graduate of Iowa State University. After all, students are here to live, learn, grow, and get an education. Together, we can make that happen!

Living on Campus

By living on campus, your student will enjoy a built-in network of friends and has staff dedicated to helping him or her succeed.

A community advisor (CA) lives in each residence-hall house and is there if your student has a question about campus, has roommate concerns, needs advice, or just wants someone to listen. Community advisors plan fun and informational activities to bring students in the community together.

Your student is supported by a full-time hall director who lives in each building. These are typically Master's level staff with responsibility for creating a community that contributes to the personal and academic success of our students. They've successfully been through what your student is experiencing and provide an invaluable resource!

Living on campus provides your student with an environment designed to help him or her succeed. Students are near class, friends, and dining options. Encourage your student to take advantage of all the resources living on campus has to offer.
