Department of Residence and ISU Dining Recognized for Environmental Efforts

GOVERNOR’S AWARDS HONOR IOWA ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS

DES MOINES — Eleven Iowa organizations and businesses will receive Environmental Excellence awards from Gov. Chet Culver on June 28 at Honey Creek Resort State Park. The awards are the premier environmental honors in Iowa, recognizing leadership and innovation in the protection of Iowa’s natural resources.

“The efforts of these organizations serve as a model in providing clean air, water and land for all Iowans,” Gov. Culver said. “I congratulate them for their outstanding work to protect and enhance our environment.”

The awards program recognizes comprehensive environmental programs by organizations and businesses, along with special project awards in water quality, air quality, waste management, habitat restoration and development, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and environmental education.

The recognition ceremony will take place at the Iowa Conservation Education Coalition’s Governor’s Conference on Environmental Education, an event that occurs every five years and highlights some of the most prominent current topics in environmental education.

The winners include:

Environmental Excellence Award:
3M Company, Knoxville facility
Hy-Capacity, Inc., Humboldt
Iowa State University Dining, Residence and Facilities Planning and Management departments, Ames
Iowa Pheasants Forever, statewide

Special Recognition in Energy Efficiency/Renewable Energy:
Russell and Beth Winterhof, Aurelia agricultural operation

Special Recognition in Waste Management:
Polaris, Industries, Inc., Spirit Lake facility
Brooks National Golf Club, Okoboji

Special Recognition in Water Quality:
Washington County Environmental Department, Washington
Des Moines Water Works, Des Moines
Iowa State University Dining, Residence and Facilities Planning and Management departments, Ames
Iowa Pheasants Forever, statewide

Special Recognition in Air Quality:
Monsanto Company, Muscatine

Special Recognition in Environmental Education:
North Fayette Community School District, West Union
