Residence Life Goals
Goal 1:

Make yearly progress toward increasing the 6 year graduation rate for NDHS students who live in
university housing for 1 year to 75%

Make yearly progress toward increasing the 6 year graduation rate for NDHS students who live in
university housing for 2 years to 85%

Graduation rates of students living in university housing for 1 and 2 years will increase.
- Continue to track, compare, and analyze retention and graduation rates
- Continue to investigate factors that impact graduation rate
- Explore the EBI Map Works assessment program as a possible tool.

Students and staff will be able to articulate how their residential experience contributes
to their academic success/graduation.
- Communicate impact of living in university housing via our new web site, a summer newsletter
for incoming students, bulletin boards, house/hall/community newsletters, and conversations
with students and parents.

Identify, enhance and evaluate outreach efforts and partnerships intended to contribute to
retention and graduation of students living in university housing.
Goal 2:
-
Update the Living, Learning, Leading (LLL) structure to include specific, current, measurable learning
outcomes. (The Living Learning, Leading structure includes 5 competencies: leadership skills, academic
skills, personal skills, civic & community responsibility, and appreciation of human differences.)

Staff will participate in a process that will result in a revised LLL that will be incorporated in
fall staff training.
- Learning outcomes for each competency will be developed
- Assessment methods will be identified
- Process will be completed by spring break 2008

Staff will develop and use a new reporting format that tracks accomplishments and reinforces the
connections between the competencies, interactions, and outcomes.

Staff will know:
- their residents
- how to assess their communities
- how to identify, implement and articulate appropriate strategies to address the competencies
and accompanying learning outcomes
- how to report their accomplishments

Staff will articulate and implement effective methods of recognizing and intervening with
unproductive and/or disruptive behavior.

Conversations regarding LLL strategies will occur regularly during Residence Life Management
Team meetings.
Goal 3:
-
Develop more intentional collaborative efforts with Academic Success Center and other academically
focused entities to enhance the academic environment and provide academic support in university housing.
-
Additional resources and strategies will be developed to assist/facilitate Psych 131 in
collaboration with Academic Success Center.

We will explore the possibility of a collaborative effort with the Academic Success Center
for low/no cost tutoring for all residence hall students.
-
We will explore the feasibility of the development of learning modules that can be delivered
to students electronically.
-
Staff will work to maintain the relationship with CELT after Corly Brooke's departure.
-
We will partner with Academic Success Center and other academic staff members to implement
active intervention initiatives for at-risk students living in university housing.
-
Staff will collaborate with Academic Success Center to train student staff in academic consulting
strategies
Goal 4:

Partner with mental health professionals to educate staff about current mental health issues that
affect individual student success as well as the residential community environment. Train staff
regarding appropriate intervention behaviors.

Associate Director for Residence Life and Director of Student Counseling Service will discuss
potential collaborative efforts.
- Liaison program will be reviewed and revised

Staff will be familiar with common mental health concerns facing students.

Staff will know the appropriate referral resources and communication protocol.

Staff will routinely include discussions regarding key mental health concerns in their agendas.

Staff will utilize the new mental health site. (There is a link to this on our web site.)
- The mental health site will be introduced during fall staff training.

We will continue to support of VAWA grant.
- Students and staff will attend VAWA performances.
- Students and staff will be informed about resources

Staff will continue to actively participate as members of case management teams.

Staff will partner with DSO in appropriately responding to family concerns regarding
student mental health concerns.
