Fall 2012 Move-In Dates and Times
Quick Links: Move-In Dates, Early Arrival, Late Arrival, After Hours Arrival
Before loading your car, visit our What to Bring page for details on what to pack - and what not to!
You're excited to get here and we can't wait until you arrive! But with almost 10,000 students living on campus, it just isn't possible for everyone to move in at once. So every resident is assigned a move-in date based on their assigment and whether or not they are a new or returning ISU student. Please refer to the chart below to determine your move-in date.
Fall classes begin on Monday, August 20, 2012.
Move-In Dates
Please note that these dates are when your move-in BEGINS. Move-in continues through the first day of classes. Also, move-in will not start earlier than is advertised. So you don’t need to arrive early to "beat the rush".
Move-In Crew will be available to assist on New Student move in days from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

New students will be mailed a color-coded parking pass for move-in on Aug. 14 and 15. When you receive your pass, fill it out and keep it handy. When you get to campus, you will need to present your pass to staff in order to enter the short-term residence hall parking areas. You will have 30 minutes to park and unload your vehicle. After unloading you will need to move your vehicle to one of the long-term lots. If you lose your pass or change your move-in day - don't worry. We'll have extras when you get here.
Early Arrival - Can I move in before my scheduled date?
Move-in works best when everyone arrives on their scheduled date. We do our best to limit the number of early arrivals and we ask that you only consider this option as a last resort. If you absolutely MUST move in early, you can do so according to the instructions below:
-
Residence
Halls.
-
Residence
halls open for early arrivals beginning Saturday, August 11 at
9:00 am.
- Move in prior to August 11 is not available.
-
You
will be charged $50 for each day you arrive prior to your regularly scheduled
move-in date.
- These charges will be placed on your Ubill in September.
- If you would like to reduce these charges, consider being a part of our Move-In Crew.
- If you believe you are a member of a group that is approved to arrive early at a reduced charge, please contact your supervisor, group organizer or coach to make sure your name is “on the list.” We will not add your name to any list without that person’s written authorization.

Late Arrival - Can I move in after my scheduled date?
Your scheduled move-in date is the first date you are allowed to move in, but you are welcome to move in any day after that. If you will arrive August 20 or later, move-in is available only during regular Hall Desk hours. We also ask that you send us an email to let us know about your late arrival. Otherwise, we may give your assignment to someone else.
After Hours Arrival - What if I can't get here during scheduled move-in hours?
In the residence halls, move-in extends well into the evening. However, if you must arrive after 9:00
pm, you can still move in by contacting the CA on duty. That person's information will be posted at
the Hall Desk associated
with your assignment.
In Frederiksen Court or SUV, if you know in advance you will not arrive by 5:00 pm, please call (515) 294-2107 for Frederiksen Court or (515) 294-5630 for SUV to make prior arrangements. Otherwise, you can still move in by contacting the staff member on duty. That person's information will be posted at the Community Center associated with your assignment.
